Morella
The province of Castellon, to which Peniscola belongs, has two « Jewels of the Crown » : one is our village on the seaside, the other is Morella. During your stay in Morella, at 1000m above the sea, you will discover a magnificent Arabic style castle from the 13th century. Some parts of the castle were added during the Middle Ages.
Benassal
The streets in the historic centre of Benassal, which is called La Mola, have kept their original shape since they were designed in the 13th century. The town is well-known for its thermal baths. The water from the spring En Segures is said to be very good in healing renal diseases and is bottled since 1928.
La Vall d'Uixo (Rutas de San José)
You will find Europe’s longest navigable underground river in the cave of Saint Joseph. Local guides will take you on board their small boats to make you discover a fantastic underworld made of stalactites and stalagmites.
Delta del Ebro
50km North of Peniscola is the Ebro delta. This humid zone is the largest one in Catalonia. The delta is of international importance for its plant species and its fauna, which consists mostly of birds as one can find 95 nesting species, as well as a zone to spend the winter and feeding grounds for birds. Rice is cultivated on the inner part of the delta, which changes the whole aspect of the region from season to season.
Sant Jordi
Sant Jordi is 35km from Peniscola. Its 18-hole golf course was designed by world-class German golfer Bernhard Langer.
Valencia
140km South of Peniscola is the city of Valencia and its City of Arts and Science which is definitely worth a visit. Designed by world-famous Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, the City of Arts and Science is Europe’s biggest leisure complex of its kind.
